課程概述 |
Geospatial simulation for human-environmental interactions is emerging as an important and widely used research approach, especially focusing on dynamic nature in time and space, for understanding the changes of social phenomena and assisting in policy-making process. The course introduces students to understand the backgrounds, principles and techniques in the three main components of geospatial simulation, including: (1) core characteristics of geospatial simulation; (2) modeling spatial mobility and adaptive behaviors, and (3) modeling with GIS and network data. The issues of model validation, calibration, and reproducibility of geospatial simulation are also discussed. The agent-based modeling (ABM) software, NetLogo, is used for implementing geospatial process simulation. Experiences in any kind of computer programming is preferred. |
課程目標 |
The objective of the course is to expose students to the use of computer simulation in the geospatial sciences, especially focusing on dynamics of human behaviors and human - environmental interactions. Students will also learn how to perform computer experiments through agent-based modeling with GIS data for geospatial dynamics. They will learn how to analyze and calibrate the dynamic geographical phenomena and how to criticize simulation studies from the literature. |
