課程概述

Introduction to the flow dynamics in estuaries. We will cover topics including boundary layer physics, tidally-driven, buoyancy-driven, and wind-driven circulation, and estuarine salt balance. 

課程目標
The objective of this course is to provide the students with a strong foundation in the physical mechanisms that drive circulation, transport and mixing in estuaries. Areas of ongoing research in estuarine physical oceanography will be introduced through review of recent literature with focused classroom discussion

Research Project 
45% 
Writing a short paper on a research project. The instructor will provide data sets of oceanographic observations or numerical model results. Students are required to prepare a written paper detailing the results of their research projects. Additionally, the students will be required to give two oral presentations: 1) outlining their proposed research plan/question; and 2) detailing the final results from their project. Students are encouraged to pursue their own research interests within the context of estuarine/coastal oceanography
