課程概述

This course offers a balanced, stimulating survey of marine ecology, introducing the key processes and systems from which the marine environment is formed, and the issues and challenges which surround its future conservation.

In general, we will meet 2 hours (Mon 13:20 - 15:10) every week, but for 3 weeks (Weeks 7, 11, 14), instead of meeting in the classroom, we will meet in the fields to discuss the course materials and to explore the environment (Estuary, Mangrove, Human’s impacts). The lecture materials will be given in pre-recorded form in advance.

課程目標
Students are expected to develop a broad understanding on various issues of marine ecology, be able to generate an in-depth review on a selected topic and give a presentation.
課程要求
Final presentation (<40 minutes) + discussion (10 minutes) based on in-depth review of a topic is required. The presentation topic and outline (a few bullet points) is due by 11/30/2015. The topics should be timely and include information from current SCIENTIFIC literatures related to the marine ecology. Students are encouraged to participate in discussion on both lectures and presentations.

Occasionally, quizzes (i.e. yes-no-test or multiple choices) related to prior lecture or assignment (i.e. watching Ted talk or online documentary) will be given, but no mid-term or final exams is required.
