課程概述 |
本課程介紹西洋古代至近代的政治思想。分兩學期講授，上學期介紹古典時期及中世紀的政治思想，所討論者包括古希臘、羅馬與中世紀基督教會的政治思想。下學期介紹關於文藝復興及啟蒙時代的思想，也即是十六、十七及十八世紀這個通稱為近代初期的時段，通常並將特別著重英國政治思想之介紹。由於時間之限制，十九及二十世紀之政治思想將未必在討論之列；即使如此，本課程亦已含括西洋兩千餘年之歷史及其中之主要政治思想，故鼓勵學習者對西洋歷史作相當程度之背景閱讀，以便能瞭解橫跨古代、中世紀及近代三不同時段之文獻。 |

課程目標 |
課程之講授以『人文研究』（humanity study）之樣式為之，強調文、史、哲三學門之融會，並配合若干主題史之討論。本課程並無任何修習之前提規定，但鼓勵學習者培養良好之英文閱讀能力，並在課外或課前做原文文獻之廣泛閱讀，以配合講授者在課堂內之討論。通常無期中考，但有時會要求學習者對特定問題作一簡短之研究報告以替代之。 |
