Outline syllabus:
Semester 2: Monopoly; Price discrimination; Oligopoly models; Game theory and
applications; and Topics selected from: Externalities, Public goods, Local
Public Goods, General equilibrium with production, Asymmetric information and
auctions, Welfare and fairness, Information economics. |
課程目標 |
Course Description:
This course studies some of the fundamental concepts and methods in economics.
It equips students with the basic tools and methods of analysis used in
Economic reasoning. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to
understand the basic model-building methodology of microeconomics and should
have conducted some original model-building of simple microeconomic problems.
Relatedly, students should be able to conceptualize simple microeconomic
issues and understand the analytical reasoning underlying microeconomic
analysis. By the end of the course, students should understand the topics
covered on several different levels: mathematical as well as graphical and
verbal. They should be aware of and understand the central concepts used in
the area of microeconomic theory which are expressed in standard mathematical
terms, and be able to solve and interpret problems based on microeconomic
models at a level of difficulty appropriate for an economics undergraduate
student. Also they should be able to use microeconomic concepts and methods to
analyze and interpret some of real-world microeconomic phenomena and to assess
issues of microeconomic policy. All of their analyses and appraisals should be
should be expressed in written form clearly. |
課程要求 |
Lectures, Exams, Homework and Grades:
There will be 45 hours of lectures in the second semester. There will be 3-5
homework problem sets. The course evaluation at the second semester will be
homework and two written examinations. Grades received in homework assignments
will make up 10% of the final course grade. Collaborative work on homework
assignments is permitted. However, Students are advised to work independently
in a significant portion of their assignments. Homework extensions will not be
given. There will be two written exams:(a)Midterm Exam (19/04/2007): The
grade in the midterm exam will make up 40% of the final course grade.(b)
Final Exam (14/06/2007): The grade in the final exam will make up 50% of the
final course grade. The possibly highest grade will be 95. Any grade over
95 will be marked by 95. |
