Suitable for:
PhD and second year MA students who are writing a microeconomics dissertation have to take this compulsory course. First year MA students are not allowed to take the course unless they have teacher’s permission.
Course Description:
Academic speakers from outside the University are invited to present their recent work in Microeconomics fields. All PhD and the second year MA students will be required to regularly attend the weekly seminar. A seminar normally lasts for 90 minutes (70-80 minutes presentation and 10-20 minutes discussion), and they give students an important opportunity to learn how to present their ideas to colleagues and experts in their field. They also represent a good opportunity for students to learn speakers’ presentation skills for conferences or other occasions.
Grades:
There will be 8 to 10 talks during the first semester. Students have to submit a 3 page term paper by the end of semester. A term paper can be the form of a seminar review or a comment on one of seminar talks. The course evaluation will be students’ attendance and the term paper. Grades received in the term paper will make up 50% of the final course grade and students’ participation will be counted and make up the other 50% of grade. |
