課程概述 |
This course is designed to advance students’ understanding of the complex relationships between families and cancer. Special focus will be on the new era of genetics. Students are encouraged to examine psychosocial interventions for families coping with cancer according to their own personal and professional backgrounds. |
課程目標 |
1. To develop in-depth understanding of the inter-relationship between families and cancer
2. To understand the context of families and cancer in the era of genetics
3. To critically evaluate psychosocial interventions
4. To examine issues at the interface between family, professionals, and culture

課程要求 |
1. Punctuality, attendance, and active participation are expected.
2. Leading discussion: Students are required to read all readings before class and to participate in class discussion. Students take turn to lead in class discussion with guiding questions.
3. Cancer narratives: Interview one individual with cancer or a family member with cancer and write a report of cancer narratives (3-5 pages, single space). This paper is due on April 16.
4. Annotated bibliography of psychosocial intervention of cancer. Read, summarize and analyze 20 research articles of psychosocial interventions (e.g. individual, couple, family, or group) of one particular cancer. This paper’s due date begins on May 7.
