Course Description |

This course will meet in person at Guofa 300 on Fridays from 14:20 to 16:10.
Occasionally we may meet online when needed.

The course welcomes both undergrads and graduate students.
The course is to explore China's domestic political and economic reform after Deng Xiaoping (1978 to present). |

Course Objective |
We will outline China's political system and its evolution. We will also discuss the social consequences of China's economic liberalization. |
|
Course Requirement |
1. Class participation 40%: Students are required to attend class and actively participate in the discussion.
2. Class presentation 30%: Students are divided into groups. Each week we will have a group of students present the main arguments of the readings and provide criticisms for class discussion. Another group is to raise questions to the presenters and the class.
3. Research proposal/Review article 30%: At the end of semester, each graduate student is expected to write a research proposal (12 pages, double-spaced, excluding bibliography). Each undergraduate is expected to write a review article on at least two selected readings and one supplementary article (8 pages, double-spaced, excluding bibliography). (You choose the supplementary article from an academic journal in English.) The assignment is due the final date of the course. Please upload it to the NTU COOL course website by 5pm. |

Grading |
- NTU recommends an upper limit of 20% for A+ grades. This is not a mandatory requirement. Instructors may adjust the percentage based on course requirements. Instructors teaching required courses are particularly encouraged to follow this guideline.
