Course Description |
This course will introduce basic health care systems and discuss health policy issues and their impacts from policy perspectives. The course is structured each week by topic. The course topics cover private and public health care systems (including the health care systems in the U.S. and Taiwan), global health issues, health care reforms (such as the Affordable Care Act in the U.S.), long-term care systems, health behaviors and conditions (including smoking, drinking, and other risky health behaviors), medication, and the impact of the environment on health.
This course will also discuss several health policy issues and how to solve the issues through public policies. In this course, students will also learn to conduct health policy research by finishing their final projects. |
Course Objective |
By the end of the course, students will:
• have concepts of what policy is, the formation of a policy, and policy impacts.
• have developed a good understanding of health care systems;
• be familiar with health behaviors and health policy issues;
• learn to conduct their own health policy research.
