一、課程簡介:
Syllabus:
1.Introduction: importance of the machining, historical review of
metal cutting researches.
2.Chip formation and types of chip; mechanics of metal cutting:
orthogonal cutting model, forces, stress, strain, strain rate
relationships, estimation of cutting forces and power.
3.Sheer strain in cutting: shear angle relationship; shear stress
in metal cutting; friction at tool/chip interface; discussion.
4.Temperature in metal cutting: measurement; analytical approach;
dimensional analysis.
5.Wear and tool life: wear mechanisms; types of cutting tool wear
and failure; tool life criterion; BUE formation and its effects.
6.Cutting fluids: cutting fluid action and explanation.
7.Tool materials and work material considerations.
8.Complex tools: basic relationships; turning, milling, drilling;
rotary cutting tools.
9.Surface finish: measurement and specification; factor affecting
surface finish.
10.Chip control*: chip curl mechanisms; chip control methods.
11.Grinding+: forces; surface finish; temperature; various grinding
operations.
12.Economics of metal cutting operations+.
13.New machining technologies: High speed machining; ultraprecision
machining, etc.
Note: *depending on time available or not, this part may not be
covered.
