Course Description |
This course introduces refining and petrochemical process. All the key processing units in refinery and petrochemical plant are included. Main categories of polymers and how they are related to the petrochemicals are covered. Alternative energy production and carbon capture technology will also be discussed in the end. |
Course Objective |
At the end of this course you should
- Have an overview of world energy, refining, and petrochemical market
- Know the key characteristics and properties of crudes, refinery and petrochemical products.
- Have a good understanding of key refinery and petrochemical processes. For each process you should know
-- The process’ role in refinery
-- Its feed and products,
-- Reaction in the process
-- Main operation parameters
- Understand how petrochemical plants (Steam Cracking and Aromatic plant) are linked to refinery and how C2-C4 and C6-C8 (BTX) petrochemicals are produced.
- Know the main categories of polymers, their major usages, and how they are related to the C2-C4 and C6-C8 chemicals.
- Have basic knowledge of other energy producing and delivery mechanisms (Fuel Cells, Wind, Solar) as well as carbon capture technology.
