課程概述 |
Science and technology of polyolefins, most specifically polyolefins based on C2 to C5 olefins obtained from steam cracking. The course will cover olefin polymerization methods (radical, ionic, and metal-coordinated insertion) and kinetics (activation, initiation, propagation, termination, transfer, and mathematic approaches), homogeneous and heterogeneous catalyst technology (activator, initiator, support, electron donor, Ziegler-Natta, metallocene, and organometallic), polymerization reactor dynamics (CSTR and tubular, slurry, solution, gas-phase, and hybrid, reactor granule technology, heat and mass transfer), structural characterization (molecular weights, composition, rheology, and morphology), structure and property relationships (plastics, rubbers, tackifiers, crystallization, crosslinking, self-association, mechanisms and mechanics of plasticity, elasticity, and adhesion), and polyolefin blends and compounds (thermodynamics and dynamics of blends and compounds). |
課程目標 |
Polyolefins account for majority of plastics, synthetic thermoset rubbers, thermoplastic elastomers and tackifiers produced and are the backbone of polymer industries, both in Taiwan and globally. This course will prepare the students to work in the polymer industry or to continue to pursue research in polymers. This course will also teach the students to apply chemical engineering fundamentals, thermodynamics, kinetics, mechanics, engineering mathematics, catalysis science, reactor dynamics, materials and polymer science, to the science and technology of design, synthesis, and manufacturing of polyolefins. |
