課程目標 |
The overall objectives of this course are to:
i. describe how thermodynamics of materials and phase diagram help understandings of equilibrium and non-equilibrium solidification paths.
ii. introduce nucleation and growth mechanisms of primary phases and intermetallics.
iii. introduce the development of morphologies such as dendrites, cells, eutectics, and peritectics.
iv. offer an overview on main solidification processes and solidification defects in engineering parts. |
課程要求 |
Students should have taken the following MSE undergraduate courses:
1. Thermodynamics of Materials (I and II), Curriculum Number MSE2001 and MSE3001
2. Physical Metallurgy (I and II), Curriculum Number MSE2004 and MSE2005
3. Metallic Materials, Curriculum Number MSE5002
After successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
i. understand heat and solute transfer around the liquid-solid interface during solidification.
ii. understand how to use thermodynamics and phase diagram data to investigate solidification system.
iii. understand why morphological instability happens and what is the outcome.
iv. understand key factors affecting the resulting solidification microstructure.
v. describe recent solidification processing and its challenges (e.g., defects) in general. |
