課程概述

This course provides students with an introduction to principal concepts and methods of fluid mechanics. Topics covered in the course include fluid properties, viscosity. Velocity field, substantial derivative, streamlines and pathlines. Pressure distribution in stationary and accelerated systems. Manometry. Bouyancy. Reynolds transport theorem. Dimensional analysis and non-dimensional groups. Continuity equation, momentum equation and angular momentum equation for control volumes. Energy equation and Bernoulli equation. Euler's equation for inviscid flow and Navier-Stokes equation for viscous flow. Boundary conditions for the basic equations of fluid mechanics. Stream function, vorticity and rotation, viscous stresses and strain rates. Reynolds number. Qualitative aspects of turbulence. Laminar and turbulent pipe flow. Boundary layer concepts.

To cover the basic principles and equations of fluid mechanics
To present numerous and diverse real-world engineering examples to give students a feel for how fluid mechanics is applied in engineering practice
To develop an intuitive understanding of fluid mechanics by emphasizing the physics
