課程概述

This introductory course is taught in English by five instructors with strong microbiology background. The location of the classroom is at Room 106, New Agricultural Chemistry Building (Near 5th Women's Dormitory). Students with background in biology are encouraged to take this course, which will take you to explore the world of microorganisms. The course content is based on the textbook "Prescott's Microbiology", and can be divided into cell biology, metabolism, genetics, taxonomy and immunology of microorganisms, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, and protists. Each instructor evaluates students' performance based on the assignments, quizzes or exams he/she gives.

課程目標
From basic knowledge to advanced topics, the course aims to help students get acquainted with a wide range of microorganisms, including virus, archaea, bacteria, fungi and protists. Guided by instructors with different expertise, students will be brought into the microbial world through studying microbial cell structure, nutrition and growth, microbial metabolism, microbial genetics and biotechnology, taxonomy, characteristics of microbes in each domain, and immune systems. Students taking this course will acquire background knowledge of microbiology, which can then be applied to different microbe-associated tasks. The course could become cornerstone to success when students would like to develop their career in the life science/biotechnology-related fields.
課程要求
You can take this course if you are either
(1) in your junior year or beyond; or
(2) international student
