課程概述

Agricultural entomology is the study of insects in relation to crop production, food security, and sustainable agriculture. This course introduces students to the diversity, biology, and ecology of agriculturally important insects, with emphasis on both harmful and beneficial species. Students will explore principles of insect-plant interactions, pest outbreaks, and integrated pest management strategies aimed at reducing pesticide dependence and promoting sustainable crop protection.

課程目標
The goal of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the biology, ecology, and management of insects in agricultural systems. By exploring both harmful and beneficial roles of insects, the course aims to equip students with the knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to recognize agriculturally important insects, analyze their interactions with crops, and apply sustainable pest management strategies that balance food production with environmental protection.
課程要求
1. Class Participation: Active participation discussions is expected. Students should come prepared, having reviewed assigned readings in advance.

2. Weekly Readings/Assignments: Students are required to complete weekly readings (scientific papers or textbook chapters) and occasional short assignments that reinforce key concepts.

3. Examinations: There will be a midterm and a final exam assessing both factual knowledge and the ability to apply concepts to real-world agricultural scenarios.

4. Project/Presentation: Each student (or group) will complete a short project or presentation on a selected insect pest, beneficial insect, or case study in agricultural entomology, demonstrating integration of ecological and management principles.
預期每週課前或/與課後學習時數
