Because of recent advance in technology and their applications, statistics has become an indispensable platform for research and data analysis in many areas. In addition, as a result of NTU internationalization, the number of foreign students from various univerity of different countries has increased rapidly in recent years. Therefore, the number of foreign students who require statistical training also increases dramatically, in particularly, the foreign graduate students whose native tongue is not Taiwanese or Mandarin. Consequently, this course is offered only to the graduate students enrolled in the Dual Degree Program and Joint Supervisiion of a Thesis between College of Bioresources and Agriculture, National Taiwan University, Taiwan and Graduate School of Comprehensive Human Scineces University of Tsukuba, Japan. This introductory statistics course which will be taught entirely in English. The objective of the course is to provide fundamental statistical concepts and methods with correct applications. The contents of the course include descriptive statistics, probability, discrete and continuous random variables, normal distribution, sampling distributions, point and interval estimation, hypothesis testing, t-test, chi-squared test, one-way analysis of variance, correlation and regression, and nonparametric methods. This course will use SAS (Statistical Analysis Systems) to illustrate applications of various methods.
The professor of this course has a PhD degree in Statistics and has worked for international pharmaceutical companies in the United States for more than 10 years. He has written 10 statistics books in English published by the international publishers such John Wiley, Marcel Dekker, and Taylor and Francis. Because his significant contributions to statistics, Professor Jen-pei Liu was elected as the Fellow of the American Statistical Association in 2012. This course will be taught completely in English. All course teaching materials including homework, midterm and final exam will be also given in English.

To equip students with fundamental statistical concepts and methods with correct applications. |
課程要求 |
(1) Student must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and written.
(2) Basic concepts of statistics.
(3) Correct applications of statistical methods.
(4) Able to run simple SAS program and to interpret the SAS outputs.
(5)No make-up midterm and final exams are allowed unless you obtain the NTU official permission of leaves. The scores of the midterm and final exams will be 0 without the NTU official permission of leaves (We follow strictly the official NTU Student Codes and Conducts).
(6) Cheating will be dealt swiftly and severely with the official NTU Student Codes and Conducts.
(7) No late homework is allowed and the score is 0 for the missing homework. One point will be deducted from the final score if you miss class everytime.
