課程概述 |
This course will train you to learn how to write an academic research paper. The course will consist of an introduction to academic English and the framework of each part of an academic paper. Students will also learn how to make an effective presentation of their research. |
課程目標 |
Course Content:
Will include features of academic writing; Writing general-specific texts; Problem, process, and solution; Data commentary; Writing abstracts and summaries; Moves and steps in research papers; and Presenting your work.
Intended Learning Outcomes (CILO):
By the end of the course, students should be able to identify features of academic writing and apply their knowledge of academic writing to organize their ideas into a logical and coherent text; develop critical reading and writing skills; recognize the moves and steps in constructing research papers; develop proof-reading and self-editing skills; and make effective written and oral presentations of one’s own work. |
課程要求 |
Because you are taking this course to improve your English writing ability, a major course requirement is to constantly demonstrate that desire through your class participation and writing assignments. Please read the textbook chapters carefully before class, make sure you understand the author's points and come prepared to raise or answer questions and participate in class discussions. In addition:
1. This course outline is subject to change. All necessary changes will be announced in class. Students are responsible for adhering to any and all schedule changes. Assignments failing to observe the requirements and guidelines will receive NO grade. Attendance is thus of vital importance. In the event of an absence, it is your responsibility to obtain the relevant information.
2. There will be 4 Writing Assignments and 2 Paper Analyses, as well as a portfolio that you will submit at the end of the semester. Assignments are due at the beginning of class; late assignments may not be accepted and will be marked down for each day late, including weekend days. |
