指定閱讀
• Science Perspectives highlight recent exciting research. They may provide context for the findings within a field or explain potential interdisciplinary significance. Perspectives commenting on papers in Science should add a dimension to the research and not merely be a summary of the experiments done in the paper.
• Nature Perspective articles are intended to provide a forum for authors to discuss models and ideas from a personal viewpoint. They are more forward looking and/or speculative than Reviews and may take a narrower field of view. They may be opinionated but should remain balanced and are intended to stimulate discussion and new experimental approaches.

說明
1.
participation
40%
Students are expected to participate in the discussion during presentations and ask questions. The class period should be interactive instead of simply a lecture. Some of the papers will be discussed "journal club" style, with students responsible for describing the experiments and key findings of the assigned papers.
2.
quizzes
20%
There will be three short, open note/paper quizzes (dates will be announced). The quizzes will cover the material from the papers assigned for the day’s class.
3.
attendance
20%
Students are required to attend each class as part of their grade. Reading assignments for class: A main paper will assigned for reading before each class. All students are responsible for reading it before class. There will also be several supplemental papers listed for each class. These papers are not required reading, but contain additional information that will be useful to students for understanding the topic to be covered.
4.
Writing assignment (due November 6 by email)
20%
Provide a short (up to 1000 words) commentary on one of the assigned articles (or with the instructor's approval, an article of your choosing) using the general instructions for ‘Perspectives’ articles from Science or Nature (below). You are welcome to use any relevant literature for background information (provide references). I will provide two recent Science or Nature article and their associated Perspective as examples. • Science Perspectives highlight recent exciting research. They may provide context for the findings within a field or explain potential interdisciplinary significance.
