課程概述

Advanced Plant Physiology introduces the structure and function of the plant cell, water absorption, and translocation, uptake, and assimilation of mineral nutrition, photosynthesis, respiration, lipid metabolism, blue light reaction, the function of plant hormone, and the control of flowering. The mechanisms and functions of plant physiology will be the theoretical basis of horticultural cultural management and production.

Students will learn physiological mechanisms and functions in the context of how environmental factors affect those. Interactions between plants and abiotic/biotic stress factors will be covered in various topical subjects and highlighted towards the end of the course.

課程目標
Understand fundamental physiological mechanisms of plants and application of the knowledge in horticultural crop production in a way that how to regulate the growth and development, promote the yield and quality, and lower production cost of horticultural crops through understanding the growth, development, and biochemistry of plant metabolisms. 
課程要求
‧ Examinations: 50%
o Examination 1: 25% (Topics covered from Week 1 through 6)
o Examination 2: 25% (Topics covered from Week 8 through 13)
‧ Group presentation: 30%
o A group of 3 students gives a 20-min presentation about a topic selected from lectures.
o A 10-min Q&A section follows at the end of the presentation.
‧ Online quizzes: 10% (open book via the NTU COOL class website, see below)
o Online quiz 1: 5% (Topics covered from Week 1 through 3)
o Online quiz 2: 5% (Topics covered from Week 8 through 10)
‧ Participation in pop-quizzes and discussion in lectures: 10%, recorded by the Class Response System (Poll Everywhere)
