In this seminar, we will read, discuss, and evaluate recent research on a range of changes in family behaviors and household relationships from a demographic perspective. Readings are drawn not only from the demographic literature on the family but also from sociology, economics, history and human development. Seminar discussion will consider explanations and classical debates about changing family forms and family variation, as well as assess implications for empirical research and public policy. In the process of writing a research paper, you will have the opportunity to read more deeply on a substantive area of interest.
