課程概述

一、課程簡介:

The Insect Biotechnology course
aim to provide principles of popular
bio-techniques as
well as their applications. The Course
welcome students from the
Entomology
Department and those from other
departments. Having “Insect” before
the
“Biotechnology”, it shows that the
fruitful insect species are excellent
experimental
organisms. I will also include other
animals such as zebrafish, frogs, mice
and humans in
the case study.

Lecturing bio-technology itself is
boring to both the lecturer and
students.
Accordingly, I will emphasize the solid
background behind the technique,
how it is
carried out at the bench, and how it
can be applied to real cases. Students
who want
to know a great numbers of bio-
techniques may be disappointed;
however, those who
want to learn solid background of
popular bio-techniques and the
beauty of life science
it self will be highly inspired.

Having said that case study will
be a certain proportion in the course, I
will train
students how to read scientific
literatures. It is also a crucial part of
learning
biotechnology. Thus the Insect
Biotechnology will be very different
from other molecular
biology-related courses in the campus
given my special design of the course.

Students do not have to worry
about the challenge from
examinations. The
essence of examination is to tell
students key points of the course
content rather than
to dispute students’ efforts. Therefore
students will perform very well in the
examination if they pay concentration
on the lecturing content. Team-work
presentation will be another important
part of the course. I believe that
students will
have fun through the program of the
course.
