課程概述 |
This course focuses on the economics of network markets and the platform This course focuses on the economics of network markets and the platform strategy that mediate these networks. Network markets are characterized by complementarity, compatibility, standards, same-side and/or cross-side network externalities, switching cost; and significant economies of scale. The main strategic themes include the dynamics of multi-sided networks, the architecture and pricing of platforms, and the envelopment of networks and the coopetition of platforms. The first half of this course will center on a systematic and theoretical analysis of networks and the strategy formulation of the platform business model; the second half will explore in more detail many special topics and real-world cases.
For doctoral students two more topics – technology transaction and innovation diffusion – will be studied and additional information and material will be provided.
Grading will be based on one midterm report and one final report, which could be case studies going through the six steps suggested by Catalyst Code or multi-sided platform business plan proposals supported by viability analysis.
