課程概述

This course is designed for students interested in learning about current affairs with topics ranging from science, nature, politics, religion, fashion, and education. Students will learn facts and developments in current affairs through extensive in-class reading. They will also acquire a global vision naturally through group discussions, essay-writings, and tutor sessions conducted by either the professor or teaching assistants. Guest lectures by distinguished Taiwanese will be included to provide students with an authentic view towards issues concerning business, politics, art, etc.

課程目標
The goal of this course is to help NTU students form their own global perspectives on important and interesting current affairs worldwide. This class will enrich students’ knowledge of science, society, culture, business, and religion. Values, critical thinking, reasoning, and ethics will be some central themes that integrate various current affairs taught in the class. Class participation, discussion, and a peer review are incorporated to help students appreciate different opinions.
課程要求
Students are required to attend a 2-hour lecture and a 1-hour tutor session each week. Assigned readings should be completed before class so as to facilitate the active participation in group discussions and tutor sessions. Students will have to write two one-page essays, one in Chinese and one in English. Each student will then be asked to review essays written by four other classmates. Constant visit to the class website on Ceiba (https://ceiba.ntu.edu.tw/981globe) and the board “CurAffairs” on PTT is strongly recommended.
