課程概述 |
Public health is what we, as a society, collectively do to assure the conditions in which people can be healthy. This course will overview the origin of public health in the world and present public health issues from a historical perspective, including the evolution of population policy, national health insurance, and health promotion in Taiwan, and the development of water supply, land use, public housing and town planning in Hong Kong. |

課程目標 |
At the end of this course students should be able to:
● discuss the concept of public health
● illustrate the implications for public health of changing social conditions; and
● describe the stories of public health in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

課程要求 |
This course meets for two hours every week in the first half semester and is conducted as lecture. Students are expected to submit a one-page reflection before the class. There will be a group project report, due May 30, 2017, that chronologically lists major events for a public health-related story. Students will be graded according to their performance in one-page reflection (30%), class participation (30%), and the group project report (40%). |
