課程概述 |
流行病學實例研究 (碩班)、流行病學實例研究一 (博一)、流行病學實例研究二 (博二)
本課程透過閱讀、報告與討論教師指定的原著論文,建立學生對於文獻具批判性的深入瞭解,增進知識深度,另外也透過接觸不同領域研究的最新進展增進知識廣度,了解全球大趨勢。每位碩班同學需口頭報告及評論各一次,訓練深度閱讀及條理清晰、要點凸顯和台風穩健的學術表達能力。所要報告的論文是由指導教師指定,評論的論文則是以不同領域的研究優先(如已無不同領域論文則安排非自己指導教授之選讀論文)。碩班同學報告時間為20-25分鐘,接著碩班評論同學以投影片進行5-7分鐘的評論,後續由博班同學以口頭進行3-5分鐘的評論,評論及討論時間共為15-20分鐘,指導老師總評時間為5分鐘。每位博班同學上台辯論1次,辯論題目由同學諮詢指導老師後自行選定,以能夠引發熱烈討論的題目較佳。辯論目的在培養同學就事論事,憑證據說話的素養,以科學求真求實態度透明檢驗一個議題的正反觀點。正反方報告各20分鐘,提問及回答各約10-12分鐘。三人組:一人主持辯論及做Introduction與最後conclusion,正反方各一人。四人組:一人主持及做Introduction,正反方各一人,第四人做結論。
This course requires students to read, present, and comment on research papers designated by teachers. This course aims to help the students to build up the competency to read scientific literature, and to participate the discussion on the latest advances reported by global scientific communities. Each Master student presents once and comments on other classmate’s presentation once. The paper will be assigned by his/her advisor, and the commented paper (Different from their own research domain is preferred) will be randomly assigned. The time for each presentation is 20-25 minutes, followed by 5-7 minutes and 3-5 minutes of comments from the assigned master and PhD students, respectively. The time for comment and group discussion is 15-20 minutes. The advisor of paper presenter has 5 minutes to make a final conclusion and comments. Each PhD student participates debate once. The subject of debate is chosen by the students after consulting the advisor. The purpose of the debate is to help students to master the skill to examine the pros and cons of a subject from scientific evidence. Both sides have 20 minutes for main presentation, 10-12 minutes for questions and answers. For a 3-person group, student A introduces the subject and makes the conclusion remark, student B advocates the affirmative view, and student C advocates the opposite view. For a 4-person group, student A introduces the subject, student B advocates the affirmative view, and student C advocates the opposite view, and student D makes the conclusion remark.

At the end of the course the students are expected to
1. Describe a public health problem in terms of magnitude, person, time, and place .
2. Draw appropriate inference from epidemiologic data .

課程要求 |
出席率很重要,學生若缺席四堂課則無法獲得學分。學生每週需閱讀下週討論之文獻和辯論主題。所有老師參與予學生報告和評論的評分。辯論分數以組為單位而非以個人表現。期末心得必須在2022年5月30日前上傳繳交。期末心得需統整口頭報告重點、碩博班學生的評論、聽眾問題及答覆、指導老師意見,以及課堂中學到的內容。
Attendance is important. Students will fail this course after absenteeism four times. Students must read the papers or debate topic which will be discussed in the next week. Presentation and comment will be scored by all teachers. Students can get extra points by raising questions or comments. The team of debate will be evaluated as a group, rather than by individual performance. All students should upload their term reports before May 30, 2022. The term report should summarize key points of the presentation, comments by the MD and PhD students, questions from audience and the answers, final comments by advisors, and what you have learnt during this class..
