本專題研究主要是指導相關領域的研究生熟悉以下事務,包括:
(1)論文寫作技巧
(2)科學文獻批判
(3)研究計畫書寫及整合
(4)統計分析技巧
(5)預醫領域之運用
等,以期使修課同學由實際的例子了解族群的特色及精髓,並建立自己獨特的研究水準及方向 

課程目標

課程要求
Requirement:
1. The time is for everyone, so please plan the schedule in advance. I recommend that all of you set the above time as the time frame for your progress. Every student should provide one sheet for your progress.

2. Please prepare the print-out note (maximal 4 sheets for each topic) for your data presentation

3. Welcome for group discussion and sharing any experience

Reference for biostatistical learning comments from Prof. Tu, Yu-Kang:

Regarding to books on self-learning mathematics and statistics, I will recommend the following:

1. Essential Mathematics for Economic Analysis by Knut Sydsaeter and Peter Hammond. A very good book to refresh univariable calculus and learn multivariable calculus. There are several chapters on introductory matrxi algebra.

2. Mathematical tools for applied multivariate analysis by J Douglas Carrol and Paul E Green. A excellent book on matrix algebra for multivariate statistics. Using vector geometry to illustrate matrix algebra throughout.

3. The geometry of multivariate statistics by Thomas D Wickens. Another book on vectory geometry for statistics. May not be everyone's cup of tea, but I find it extremely helpful in understanding regression analysis.

4. Essential mathematics for political and social research by Jeff Jill. A general introduction to calculus, algebra, and statistics in a less formal style. Easy to understand.

As my learning statistics is less formal, my reading list will probably look quite different from that usually recommended by formal courses on biostatistics. I do not believe there is only one or two "standard" textbooks, as people from different backgrounds have different levels of prior knowledge and interests.

There are many good introductory textbooks of biostatistics and medical statistics, e.g. essential medical statistics by Kirkwood and Sterne, Basic & clinical biostatistics by Dawson and Trapp. I think if clinicians only want to learn how to use univariate analysis, e.g. logistic regression, survival analysis etc, reading some good books on biostatistics will suffice. If they want to develop deeper understanding or need to learn to use multivariate statistics, e.g. principal component analysis, factor analysis, structural equation modeling etc, some basic knowledge of matrix algebra and multivariable calculus will be useful.
