課程概述

本課程為公共衛生領域同學引介質性研究的方法與要領，帶領同學進行健康場域中的質性資料收集、分析、書寫、與反思。修課同學不但能了解質性研究的基礎概念與倫理議題，也將在課堂中選定健康相關議題，透過實際操作與團體討論，學習進行質性研究的技巧，包括研究計畫構思、研究設計、資料採集與分析、以及調查報告書寫。

This course aims to introduce public health students to the basic concepts, methods and skills, and ethic reflection in qualitative research. In addition to readings, students are required to select a health issue and conduct a small-scale qualitative research project. As such, students learn to conduct their own project, including research design, data collection and analysis, reflection, and writing a report.
 

課程目標
 透過修習本課程，學生將能具有以下能力：
1. 透過訪談、焦點團體或其他技巧，設計一個質性研究計畫。
2. 了解如何進行質性研究相關準備工作，包括聯繫研究場域中的關鍵報導人，並爭取參與相關活動與觀察的機會。
3. 解釋理論、研究問題、與經驗資料之間的關係。
4. 評估、討論並回應質性研究中的倫理議題。
5. 依據得到的資訊，以及對於知識生產的倫理反思，完成質性研究報告的撰寫。

At the end of the course the students will be able to:
1. Design a research protocol including interviews, focus group, or other instruments to be used for collecting the qualitative data for a small-scale research project.
2. To prepare for a qualitative research, such as making contacts with key persons at the research site and seeking cooperation and endorsement for the project.
3. Explain the research process and the relation between theory, research question, and empirical data.
4. To discuss limitations and evaluate and the ethical implications of the research.
5. To write a report of qualitative research with data collected on in the field, and with their reflection on the ethical issue in knowledge production.
 
課程要求
 學生需依照進度預習指定教材，參與課堂討論，並繳交作業與期末報告。
Students should accomplish reading before attending to class, participate in class discussion, and submit required exercises and essays.

 小作業 Exercise: making fieldnotes 
20% 
 本課程將選定一個健康促進活動現場，帶領學生進行田野觀察，並指導學生製作田野觀察筆記。 The instructor will choose a health promotion related site for students to conduct observation and make fieldnotes.

 田野調查計畫書 Qualitative research proposal 
30% 
 在學習各種質性資料收集技巧後，學生將選定一個健康相關主題，並設計一個可在本學期內完成的田野調查計畫，此計畫書應該第七週提出，並在課堂上進行報告，並由同學共同討論、提出建議。 Students will choose a health-related topic and develop a research proposal according to the skills they learn in this course. This research proposal should be submitted in the 7th week.

 田野調查報告 Qualitative research report 
30% 
 學生將於學期末繳交完整的書面田野調查報告，並於前一週進行口頭報告。 Students should accomplish the qualitative research they propose, and submit the final report in the end of semester. Students are also required to give an oral presentation in the 17th week.
