課程概述 |
Medical imaging has become a powerful non-invasive diagnostic tool for the modern medicine. It has an interdisciplinary achievement of many physicists, chemists, engineers and medical doctors, especially in the last twenty-five years. In this introductory, three-unit course, we are going to discuss (1) the underlined physics, (2) imaging techniques, (3) imaging system and (4) their applications for systems used in diagnostic radiology. For medical imaging that is not used in radiology, we are not able to cover it at this point due to the limited time we have in one semester.
Although this is an engineer-oriented course, physicists, chemists as well as medical doctors are much welcomed to audit for any specific field you are especially interested in. Lectures are based on a three-hour module each week. Students will have some computer homework assignments, one midterm exam, one final exam and a final project report (see appendix II) at the end of the semester. |

參考書目 |
教科書: There is not a single up-to-date quantitative book containing most of the material in this
course,
but several reference books are recommended in appendix III. First three books in the list are all
good choices to keep.
Appendix 2 Possible Topics for Final Project Topics
Image reconstruction methods
Artifacts in CT, MRI etc.
2D/3D Image registration
Dynamic Imaging Analysis
Medical imaging analysis, processing and segmentation
Compartment analysis in functional study and nuclear medicine
3D Medical imaging and volume, surface rendering
ROC analysis of imaging system / methodology
MRI K space manipulations, fast imaging and hybrid imaging
MRI motion suppression techniques
MRI Applications
Angiography methods analysis
Microscopy pattern recognition
Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)
Thermal Imaging Analysis / Simulations
Visual perception of Medical Image quality
Other quantitative / parameter imaging analysis
Optical Flow analysis (heart and joint )
Functional MRI / PET / EEG Correlation study
Edge Detection in Blurred images
Appendix 3 Reference Books
Major references:
The combination of the first three books will be adequate. Unfortunately, only the first two books are
available in Taiwan’s bookstore.
1. Z.H. Cho et al., Foundations of Medical Imaging, John Wiley and Sons, 1993
A intermediate level new book with his research results over 20 years. Z. H. Cho is kind of a genius
in Medical Imaging field. You can feel this deeply when you go through these chapters.
2. Albert Macovski, Medical Imaging Systems, Prentice-Hall, 1983
A best-sell in this field over a decade, but is a little bit old considering all the innovations in ten
years. Also, it is out of print. You can find it only in Engineering Library. The second edition is on its
way to come.
3. K.K. Shung et al., Principles of Medical Imaging, Academic Press, 1992
A good book for beginners, with up-to-date systems and much easier mathematics to follow. The
author’s strength is in ultrasonic imaging.
There are other books on medical imaging physics. It covers most of the medical imaging systems
before 1988 in great depth. There is one copy in Engineering Library.
4. S. Webb, The physics of Medical Imaging, Institute physics, 1988
A descent book on medical imaging physics. It covers most of the medical imaging systems before
1988 in great depth. There is one copy in Engineering Library.
5. Thomas S. Curry et al., Christensen’s Introduction to the physics of Diagnostic Radiology, Lea
and Febiger, Lastest version
You can find it in Medicine Library, even in bookstore. It is pretty popular.
Of course, there are many books in this field, if you need more information, just go to library and
find those books on RC78. xxx. I believe you will find a lot. |
