課程概述

Upon completion of this course, student will be able to:
1) Grasp the scope of contemporary and emerging techniques used in the study of light scattering by random media.
2) Understand the advantages and limitations of various conventional research techniques used in biomedical research.
In addition, intensive discussions in class will be conducted to ensure understanding of the course material and promote students’ ability to express different ideas and summarize comprehensively.

TOPICS TO BE COVERED:
1. Introduction to the problem of light scattering by random media
2. Radiative Transfer Theory
3. Conventional heuristic methods
4. Monte Carlo technique
5. Electromagnetism
6. 1-D scalar wave equation
7. Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) technique
8. Other interesting topics: TBA
 

課程目標
To provide students with the understanding and foundation of simulation techniques used in the research of light scattering in macroscopic random media.  
課程要求
GRADING:
Participation: 15% Assignments: 20%
Midterm Exam: 30% Final Presentation: 35%

Remark: This course will be taught in English. Grading factors include assessment of student understanding of the theory, participation in class, and effectiveness in completing the assignments, and presentation.
