1. Introduction to micro/nano fluidics and NEMS/MEMS.
2. Materials and microfabrication processes for micro/nano fluidic and NEMS/MEMS.
3. Interfacing micro/nano fluidics and NEMS/MEMS with the macro world.
4. Genetic analysis in miniaturized electrophoresis system.
5. Micro & nano fluidic systems for protein separations.
6. Micro & nano fluidic systems for cellular applications.
7. Micro& nano fluidic systems for engineering vascularized tissue constructs.
8. High throughput screening using micro & nano fluidics.
9. Micro & nano fluidic diagnostic systems for the rapid detection and quantification of pathogens.
10.Micro & nano fluidic applications in biodefense.
11.Current and future trends in micro & nano fluidics within biotechnology research.

課程目標 |
This course will provide students in the electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, and life science fields with an introduction to the basics of micro & nano fluidics and MEMS-based systems and also discusses how to link these technologies to various biomedical & analytical applications. Students will gain insight into a wide variety of biomedical applications for micro & nano analytical technologies and systems.
The material presented in this course is divided into four parts, Part I gives perspective on the history and development of micro & nanofluidic technologies, including some basic theories, Part II presents overviews on how micro & nano fluidic systems have been used to study and manipulate specific classes of components, such as DNA, RNA, and proteins, Part III focuses on specific biomedical applications of micro & nano fluidics: biodefense, diagnostics, high throughput screening, and tissue engineering and finally Part IV concludes with a discussion of emerging trends in the micro & nano fluidics field and the current challenges to the growth and continuing success of the field.
