課程概述

Worldwide challenges such as inequality, climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic unveil the significance of including different countries in the age of globalization. It is vital to enhance global awareness and employ practical and innovative approaches to solve global problems. In 2018, "Global Competence" was added as a criterion in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) for the first time. Taiwan was ranked 5th out of the 27 countries on the test. Although promising, there is still room for improvement.

International mobility should not be the only way to acquire international perspectives and experiences. Due to the unpredictable development of the pandemic, "local internationalization" has become an alternative to international mobility. For the 111-2 semester, three professors specializing in international affairs and higher education, Vice President for International Affairs Prof. Hsiao-Wei Yuan and Associate Vice President for International Affairs Prof. Jiun-Haw Lee and Prof. Kuo-Hsin Yang, will co-offer a class titled "Global Competence with Internationalization at Home." Additionally, foreign national representatives and ambassadors will be invited as guest speakers. The following section is the curriculum programming and work assignments. They will share their insights on their countries' unique issues, provide observations in terms of career experience, and address global learning in times of uncertainty. The topics will demonstrate complex shared societal issues, such as education, diplomacy, economy, ecological and environmental protection, democracy, etc. This global course aims to advance professional and global competence in international and multicultural fields.

A series of lectures and lessons have been planned for the course. In addition, a comprehensive discussion session will take place after every few lessons. Students will undertake group discussions based on the discussion questions, which focus on aligning this course topic with the current state of Taiwan, and then provide a summary of their discussions. Therefore, students must collect local information about this topic and analyze how to compare and improve problem-solving skills. This will strengthen both independent thinking and intercultural communication. This course provides a selection of materials for further reading to stimulate further ideas through speeches and exchange of opinions.

課程目標
This course encourages students not to be confined by departments or fields and to explore real-world trending issues from different fields. With engagement in this class, they can expand their horizons and optimize their potential in emerging fields. The course will not only facilitate students' in-depth observation and reflection on how to apply their learning on and off campus but to equip the next generation with creative thinking in a rapidly-changing, interconnected world.
課程要求
Students are required to collect local information about designated topics and explore country differences and improve problem-solving skills.

Grading and Assessment:
1.Weekly assignment: All enrolled students are required to submit a 300-word report for each lecture through NTU COOL. (The report must include three key points of the lecture, and perspectives or unique insights on the issues discussed, which focus on how to relate this course topic to Taiwan's current situation, and how to compare and grapple with the issues in Taiwan) Late submissions will not be accepted.
2.Group discussion: Five groups will be randomly selected to present in every discussion class. The discussion topic and group member list will be announced in the beginning of the class.
3.Final report: Students will present in groups of ten.
4.Grading method: Pass or Fail
5.Students will fail the course if they plagiarize in reports or do not submit reports; do not attend the class for three times or more; do not participate in final presentations.
