課程概述 |

This course is designed to familiarize graduate students with fundamental skills required for academic English writing. The course comprises two hours of lecture and one hour of discussion and hands-on practice to ensure that students master the fundamentals of academic writing fundamentals. A range of topics will be covered, including common rhetorical patterns, paragraph/essay development, grammar functionality, and essential vocabulary in academic English.
A distinctive aspect of this course is its integration of AI technology. The curriculum includes an introduction to AI tools, such as Grammarly, Quillbot, and ChatGPT4o. Their applications are embedded in the writing process, particularly before and after writing practice. |
課程目標 |
By the end of the course, students will
1. Understand common rhetoric modes in academic writing.
2. Enhance their knowledge of grammar functions and learn to apply these principles to their own writing.
3. Develop familiarity with vocabulary frequently used in academic writing.
4. Edit and proofread their own and their peers’ writing with AI assistance and personal judgement. |
課程要求 |
1. Students are required to attend all classes. No more than three excused absences are permitted. One free absence is allowed, and each additional absence will result in a 3-point deduction.
2. Active participation in class discussions is required.
3. Quizzes and a comprehensive final exam are included in this course. No make-up quizzes/exam will be allowed.
4. Writing assignments are carefully scheduled as stages toward the fulfillment of the course’s objectives. Late assignments will not be accepted. |

Students are recommended to spend 2 to 4 hours outside the class each week on preparing for the quizzes, reviewing and/or previewing the course materials, or completing the assignments. |
