課程概述 |
This course consists of two hours of lectures/class discussions and one hour of group discussions/writing tasks. The two-hour lecture/class discussion equips students with essential fundamental knowledge of writing English research papers and conducting English presentations. The one-hour group discussion enables students to practice their knowledge and skills using authentic publications. By the end of the training, students are expected to complete an individual term paper or a collaborative writing project, applying the moves and techniques learned from the course. Additionally, students are provided with the opportunity to apply their trained presentation strategies and techniques in conducting their simulation presentations.
A distinctive aspect of this course is its integration of AI technology. The curriculum includes an introduction to AI tools, such as SciSpace and ChatGPT4o. Their applications are embedded in the writing process, particularly before and after writing practice.

課程目標 |
This course intends to train students to critically read and write academic journal research papers. Additionally, students will be trained to effectively present their research orally. The training encompasses an introduction to English academic writing, the structural framework of each section of a journal paper, and practical strategies and techniques for presentations. Moreover, this course will introduce and apply various AI tools (e.g., Automatic Writing Evaluation and generative AI) to enhance critical reading performance, information organization, writing clarity, and self-editing capabilities. Hence, by the end of course, student will be able to achieve the following Course Intended Learning Outcome (CILO):
1. identify features of academic writing and apply their knowledge to organize their ideas into a logical and coherent text (CILO1) (CC 1, 2 & 3)
2. recognize the moves and steps in constructing research papers (CILO2) (CC 1 & 2)
3. develop proof-reading and self-editing skills (CILO3) (CC 1 & 3)
4. make effective written and oral presentations of one’s own work (CILO4) (CC 1, 2 & 3)
5. familiarize themselves with and apply various AI tools to reinforce the quality of their writing (CILO5) (CC1 & 2)
