課程概述 |
This interactive 16-week distance learning course aims to strengthen students’ critical reading and thinking skills, improve their academic literacy, and broader their academic horizon by exploring the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is anticipated that students are equip with early preparation for their global competitiveness and committed to social responsibility as informed global citizens. This course meets once for 2 hours weekly via online platform with 3 on-campus meeting sessions for a comprehensive learning experience. The distance learning format allows for a flexible and inclusive learning environment, accommodating diverse locations of our students and industry expert speakers, enriching the learning experience with varied perspectives and real-world SDG applications.
Core activities of the course will include lectures, discussion forums and short responses, collaborative projects, final learning evaluation tasks and industry expert guest talks. Students will be evaluated through participation in discussion forums and short responses, weekly quizzes, a midterm group project, and a final learning evaluation task. The collaborative and individual tasks are designed to reinforce metacognitive skills and global awareness.
On completion of this course, students will not only develop effective reading skills, but more importantly, grow as proficient and critical readers, while also gaining a better awareness of global issues. This course aligns with the university's commitment to foster a globally aware and responsible academic community.

Course Intended Learning Outcome (CILO): By the end of the course, students should be able to:
CILO 1: identify common patterns of organization in texts and develop strategies for reading a variety of genre texts, increasing vocabulary, and responding critically to texts. (CC 1, 2 & 3)
CILO 2: analyze and summarize information from texts including main ideas, supporting details & evidence, points of view, biases and arguments. (CC 1, 2 & 3)
CILO 3: demonstrate awareness of local and global issues from a variety of genre texts
and develop capacity to become a more critical, independent reader and critic. (CC 1, 2 & 3).
CILO 4: apply critical reading skills to evaluate the quality and limitations of an argument or a solution using appropriate evidence or resources. (CC 1, 2 & 3)

Active participation in all online and on-campus sessions, including discussion forums, assignments, and other interactive activities is essential and constitutes your course attendance.
Excessive absences may impact your grade and eligibility for course credit.
Prior completion of assigned readings and related tasks is mandatory to ensure meaningful contribution to both online forums and class discussions.
Adherence to academic integrity in all course work, with proper citation of sources in discussions, assignments, and projects.
